Lake Garda Food and Wine

Lake Garda, thanks to the favorable climatic conditions throughout the year and its geographic conformation, with territories that pass from the plains, to the hills, to the plateaus, presents a wide range of high quality food and wine products.

One of the products of excellence is extra virgin olive oil, renowned for its taste and lightness typical of a Mediterranean area, which goes well with both lake and sea fish, and with dishes of meat and polenta of the place.

The citrus fruits of Garda and above all the lemons, have been produced since the XIII century with the construction of the famous lemon groves from Gargnano to Limone del Garda still visible today.

The lands surrounding the Benaco, have produced, since ancient times, very valuable grapes that led to the creation of different types of wines.
The most famous white of the lower garda is the Lugana, straw-yellow color and aromatic scent lends itself to be combined with both lake fish and pasta dishes, but also excellent served during the aperitif. For some years the Lugana Spumante has also been produced, which has a straw-yellow color and a lively and consistent perlage, a fresh and decisive fragrance.
Another famous wine and wine of the most renowned in Italy is Amarone della Valpolicella: Dry red wine DOCG is made with corvina, corvinone, rondinella, molinara, but also cruina, forselina, negrara and oseleta. The minimum gradation is 14º, but the most powerful can reach even 17º, shows an intense red color and gives fruity and spicy notes. Full-bodied wine, ideal paired with meat, aged cheeses and game.
Perhaps the best known wine is Bardolino, produced from corvina veronese, molinara and rondinella grapes and has a ruby red color, with a slightly fruity taste. Thanks to its sweet taste it can be combined with any dish.
The classic Garda Groppello is a DOC wine obtained from one of the oldest vines of Lake Garda, cultivated only in the Valtènesi area, on the hills in the province of Brescia. It is a delicate red, spicy with fruity, velvety and pleasant notes, which goes well with savory pasta dishes, all types of meat and medium-aged cheeses.

Not just wine, another product is the Grana Padano, a hard cheese, obtained from decaffeinated milk by natural outcrop, easily digested thanks to the slow and long aging.

Lake fish: the most valued is the Carpione, a fish with white and soft flesh. Other fish products are Coregone, Pike and Sardines, the Alborelle.

There are more consortia and agencies that organize food and wine tours and visits to wineries and oil mills.
