High-end independent villas in Desenzano are very few, and high season (July and August) should be booked 4–6 months ahead: by spring the best weeks are often gone. Anyone after a villa with a pool or a lake view for August should start looking between January and March. From both villas, Desenzano’s centre, the old harbour and the lakefront are within walking distance. Nearby: Sirmione with its Scaligero Castle and thermal spa (Aquaria) a few kilometres away, the Lugana wine cellars for tastings, the lower-lake beaches, and the Chervò and Arzaga golf courses about 10 km out. For families, Gardaland and the water parks are 15–19 km away.
